OUR HISTORY
SONY got its start just after the end of world war two, in 1946. Masuru Ibuku founded the company, originally as an electronics shop in a department store. Back then the company was known as 'Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo', and was responsible for the the build of Japan's first tape recorder. We changed our name to 'SONY' after our store expansion in 1958. Since then we've been making amazing electronic devices that change our way of living.
